SharePlay Support Arrived for Twitch

Twitch has started offering support for SharePlay on iPhone and iPad devices.

Twitch has rolled out a new feature designed to bring its viewers closer together. The live streaming service now offers support for the SharePlay feature that comes with iOS 15.1 on iPhone and iPad devices. Thus, up to 32 users will be able to watch the same broadcast while making FaceTime calls.

First of all, let’s say that everyone in the call must be signed in to the Twitch application. The first time you open a stream while in FaceTime, Twitch will ask if you want to play it for yourself or for everyone in the call, and it will remember your choice. If you choose to share with everyone, SharePlay syncs the stream across everyone’s devices. In this way, every user can watch the same moment at the same time. Play and pause controls are also synced across devices.

Anyone in the conversation can move other people to another Twitch channel. Additionally, anyone will be able to interact with the publisher’s chat, follow or subscribe to them, and send Bits from their own account. It’s possible to watch the stream in portrait or landscape orientation, but you can’t continue a SharePlay session in Twitch’s Apple TV app, at least for now.

A SharePlay session ends when the stream is closed, you leave the FaceTime call, or end SharePlay. If you close the stream, you are also asked if you want to end it for yourself or for everyone. Choosing the latter doesn’t really turn off streaming on other people’s devices but playback doesn’t sync.
